Best Whole-House Dehumidifier Reviews for 2018

For having a home environment that is dry, comfortable, and good for your health, a whole-house humidifier is a low-maintenance method to accomplish this. When living in a humid climate, excess moisture permeates a home in the living area, basement, or crawl space, including the attic. Other places such as garages, workshops, and your RV, or boat cabin can be saturated with moisture in the air. The structure of your home can be affected in the hidden areas you cannot see behind the walls and under the carpet. You will feel clammy, sweaty, and sticky when your environment is damp and muggy. Sweating to cool the body is reduced due to high humidity because the evaporation rate is lower.

People living in high relative humidity will find it harder to breathe if they suffer from any respiratory conditions, asthma, and allergies. Humidity is the perfect environment for breeding yeast known as mold; mildew, dust mites, and a host of bacteria and viruses; and windows develop condensation. You will need to decide on what is needed for your situation and what your budget will allow. We are letting you know the best units listed here for your consideration.

Tips for Using

  • If you use an extension cord, it must be rated for appliances with the correct AWG (American Wire Gauge). Do not use thin extension cords that are used for lamps or something drawing less energy. You will need an ‘appliance’ type cord that is thicker and has the correct wire gauge.
  • Read the User’s Manual carefully for full functionality and settings including water hose hookup if your model has that feature. It will show you how to install hoses and discuss extension cords.
  • Locate the dehumidifier 12-inches from walls and other items.
  • Keep coils clean of dirt and dust that can cause the dehumidifier to freeze
  • Clean the filter once a month and buy a new one when it shows wear
  • Keep all invoices and documents should you need to file a warranty claim
